Sonnet for the gift of a star
It's my eternal wonder that I'd find
So sweet a girl, with eyes as soft as doves',
And somehow then to win her heart and bind
Our souls together, fallen deep in love;
So now my days are filled from end to end
With newness that I'd always thought was gone,
My joy to know that happy years I'll spend
Awaking in your arms each morning's dawn.
Then what should be my goal? What should I be
Or do for you, whose love caused me to fall?
A simple question, answered easily:
To make you happy, anything at all.
I'd give the moon to you, if I but could;
For now, my love and this will show I would.
